I’ve never seen an albatross in person. Nor have I imagined that I would be so enchanted and moved by this bird. And how much I would learn from them, about them, about myself and about our culture.
It was all of this and much more that I experienced watching this documentary created and directed by the artist Chris Jordan, released in 2018.
The project started to be conceived in 2008, with the purpose of documenting the environmental tragedy of plastic pollution in the Pacific Ocean. The photographic expedition to Midway Island, however, proved even more shocking when thousands of young albatrosses were found dead, with their stomachs filled with plastic.
From that experience, the project unfolded and became this film, which for me is one of the most dramatic, but most sensitive and beautiful I have ever seen. It is an artwork.
Chris Jordan advises on how to have the best experience: “Watch on a system with good speakers, if possible; the sound is great and immersive.”
The film is offered for free. Volunteers from different countries have mobilized, after learning about the work, and we can count on various language subtitles by clicking on the CC button on the right side of the video.
This is literally a gift that we have received so that we can experience a new paradigm. An invitation and an inspiration to be a new paradigm.
Enjoy the movie! And happy contemplations!
